Dehydrating Drinks

Tap to log - these drinks dehydrate you!

A Friendly Word About Alcohol

We know life with a J-pouch doesn't mean giving up everything you enjoy. But here's what you should know:

Alcohol + J-Pouch

  • • Dehydrates faster than before surgery
  • • Can trigger increased output
  • • May cause butt burn the next day
  • • Hits harder & faster - smaller intestine = faster absorption

If You Choose to Drink

  • • Alternate each drink with water or electrolytes
  • • Eat before drinking
  • • Avoid carbonated mixers
  • • Know your new limits - they've changed!

No judgment here. Just log your dehydrating drinks above so you can track how they affect you and replenish accordingly!

  • • Avoid drinking large amounts at once
  • • Include electrolyte drinks, not just water
  • • Increase intake during hot weather or exercise
  • • Sip water between meals rather than during
  • • Avoid excessive caffeine (diuretic effect)
